Jim Schaffer

Chairman & Founder

When he founded the company in 1992, Schaffer Associates Chairman Jim Schaffer brought almost three decades of experience in corporate leadership to the equation. Serving as a senior executive in the retail industry for 25 years, he has extensive experience in directing businesses on both a regional and national basis. In particular, Jim’s focus has been on the hardware and building materials industries, serving in officer-level positions with such companies as Builders Square, Erb Lumber, Diamond Lumber, Grossman’s Inc., and Sears. As a recognized industry leader, Jim has contributed measurably to the industry’s growth. As a result, he has developed a vast number of relationships, as well as a comprehensive perspective of the industry itself. Jim has been a featured speaker at industry functions and has written a number of articles for both trade and national publications. This breadth of experience and exposure serves both Schaffer Associates and the building materials industry well. Today, Jim maintains a highly visible leadership position in the industry in a wide variety of roles.  He is a member of the Building Material Suppliers Association and has been a featured speaker at industry conferences.  In addition, he has served on the Board of Directors for a major global manufacturer. Under Jim’s direction, Schaffer Associates has become a national leader in organizational consulting and executive search for both industry and Fortune 500 clients.  His efforts have resulted in helping companies like The Scotts Company, ICI Glidden, and Ace Hardware restructure their leadership teams to meet the demands of an ever-changing industry.  The standards for integrity and professionalism that he has integrated into the practice are unparalleled, and his commitment to producing superior results for his client base is unwavering. Jim earned his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University and has completed extensive postgraduate work in organizational design, organizational behavior, and management. He has the privilege of serving on the Board of Directors for JAARS, a non-profit organization that supports Bible translation and literacy around the globe. An active member of Calvary Church, Jim resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his wife, Jackie. Jim and Jackie have four adult children and nine grandchildren.


JACKIE SCHAFFER
President & CFO

Jackie is one of the co-founders of Schaffer Associates and manages the daily financial affairs of the business today as President and CFO. A Baltimore native, Jackie began her professional career with Sears Roebuck & Co., where she served in several store level assignments.  During her tenure with Sears, Jackie met a Sears Management trainee, Jim Schaffer, whom she subsequently married. Jackie put her budding retail career on temporary hold in order to raise a family. In the late 1980s, Jackie resumed her professional career by entering the real estate market in Troy, Michigan, where she quickly became a top seller of residential properties for Red Carpet Real Estate. In 1992, she had the privilege of launching Schaffer Associates with her husband. In addition to managing the business from a financial perspective, Jackie provides research and referencing support to the company and conducts behavioral testing and assessment for candidates as needed. Since Schaffer Associates’ strategic relocation to Charlotte, N.C. in 1997, Jackie has managed the company’s various real estate activities, including everything from researching new markets to negotiating lease terms. She has supported the growth and expansion of the business ever since, including a 2014 relocation to the company’s current offices. Jackie began her studies at Catonsville Community College, and subsequently attended Roanoke College, where she majored in Psychology, giving her a strong background in behavioral interviewing. Currently residing in Charlotte, N.C. with her husband, Jim, Jackie has four adult children and is the proud grandmother of nine. She is active as a Precept Bible Study teacher in her local church and home.


Jacqueline Schaffer Shaw, Esq.
Vice President Client Development & General Counsel

Jacqueline Schaffer Shaw serves as Vice President Client Development and General Counsel for Schaffer Associates. As Vice President Client Development, Jacqueline oversees the development of both new and current client relationships. In this role, she is also responsible for directing all corporate communications and marketing, including print, public relations, and social media. As General Counsel, she provides legal counsel to the company with a special focus on employment issues. Before joining Schaffer Associates in 2010, Jacqueline served as Counsel for Government Affairs for the American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ) in Washington, D.C. During her tenure with the ACLJ, she gained experience working at the Committee and Sub-Committee levels with both the U.S. House and Senate in an effort to support the constitutional rights and freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment. While working on a variety of cutting-edge policy issues, she was also engaged in a number of issues involving international human rights, taking her to the United Nations on several different occasions. From 2012 to 2016, Jacqueline had the privilege of serving her community as a Member of the North Carolina House of Representatives in Raleigh, proudly representing House District 105. As a Legislator, Jacqueline enjoyed representing her constituents and being a voice for small business at the N.C. General Assembly. Jacqueline earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Studies from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and her law degree from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  She is licensed to practice law in North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Jacqueline also has the honor of serving as a member of the Crystal Vision Executive Board, which is responsible for planning and promoting the annual Crystal Vision Awards Breakfast at the NAHB International Builders’ Show. Additionally, she is proud to serve as a Board Member for the North Carolina Family Policy Council, as well as for its sister organization, NC Family Action. Jacqueline and her husband currently reside in South Charlotte, where they are active members of Calvary Church.


Bridget Tesler, PRC
Senior Account Executive

Bridget Tesler joined Schaffer Associates as an Account Executive in early 2015.  As an AIRS®-certified Professional Recruiter, Bridget brings with her extensive experience in global sourcing, purchasing, logistics, and inventory management. Over the course of the last two decades, Bridget has developed a solid national network with companies in the manufacturing, distribution, and retail industries. Prior to joining Schaffer Associates, Bridget worked for several regional manufacturers with a national distribution footprint. She has served in various professional capacities, including sales and marketing management roles, business development positions, and as a buyer and global sourcing manager for a consumer goods manufacturer. Working in these various capacities across the construction, home improvement, and consumer goods sectors, Bridget has developed a keen understanding of recruiting top talent within the industry. She is a gifted communicator who brings enthusiasm and a fresh new perspective to the Schaffer Associates team. In her free time, Bridget enjoys spending time with her husband and children. She serves as a Board Member for the W.R. Odell Elementary School PTA, as well as a volunteer soccer coach with her husband. Residing in a northern suburb of Charlotte, Bridget is actively involved with various charity organizations in her community. She is a graduate of Frostburg State University in Maryland.


RAY BOUSQUET
Account Executive

Ray Bousquet joined Schaffer Associates as an Account Executive in 2017. Prior to joining the Schaffer Associates team, Ray spent more than 30 years in the hardware and home improvement industry, having held senior sales management and business development positions with global manufacturers such as Pella Corporation and Solutia, Inc. Over the course of his career, he has developed strong leadership skills and industry contacts, as well as integrity and initiative, all of which make him a highly valuable asset to the Schaffer team.  Notably, Ray’s industry experience also includes his tenure both owning and successfully operating a roofing business. As an industry veteran who has achieved a significant level of success over the years, Ray has developed strong talent acquisition and human resource skills. Operating as an Account Executive near Princeton, New Jersey, Ray also provides a solid business development effort on behalf of Schaffer Associates both in the Northeast and nationally for the Millwork and Building Materials sectors. Ray earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. An active member of both the Church of the Nativity and the Knights of Columbus, Ray has spent several years in numerous positions within organizations for the developmentally disabled and has served on the Board of Directors of various nonprofits. Ray enjoys spending his free time with his children and grandchildren, as well as going to the beach with his wife.


BRIAN HYDER
Account Executive

Brian Hyder joined Schaffer Associates in 2017 as an Account Executive—a role in which he is able to tap into his extensive background in sales and business development within the building and home improvement products sector. Prior to beginning his tenure with Schaffer Associates, Brian spent almost four years with Cameron and Barkley (now Vallen) in their lighting showroom, selling to national and local custom home builders.  Notably, his success in the wholesale lighting and electrical sector allowed him to build relationships with manufacturers and suppliers, a network which he is able to leverage on behalf of Schaffer Associates’ clients. Brian’s experience also involves six years in the retail home improvement channel representing Masco. During that time, he successfully sold the complete offering of Masco products, developing strong relationships within the plumbing and hardware sector.  His extensive industry network and expertise in the field have made him a crucial asset to the Schaffer Associates team. Brian earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication, as well as his M.B.A. with an emphasis in Leadership, from Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina.  Brian is an active member of the Charleston Southern University Alumni Association and enjoys supporting his CSU Buccaneers. In their spare time, Brian and his wife, Mandy, enjoy all the great experiences that Charlotte offers from concerts and shows to sporting events. They also enjoy visiting nearby Charleston and Asheville, and attending Forest Hill Church in Fort Mill, South Carolina.


DAN BURNS
Account Executive

Dan Burns joined Schaffer Associates in 2017 as an Account Executive, bringing an impressive industry background to the firm, including notable experience with Makita, Marshalltown, Goldblatt and Great Star Industrial. In particular, Dan possesses decades of client development experience inside the hardware and home improvement industry.  During his time with Great Star Industrial, he served as the Goldblatt Product Manager, overseeing a major product line from design and production through distribution, sales, and marketing.  He also previously served in a management level capacity with Marshalltown Company, leading a national sales team and building a client network with dozens of industry retailers nationwide.  His work with Marshalltown was preceded by his time with Makita USA, where he first earned his industry credentials. Dan’s extensive industry background and network have already contributed to Schaffer Associates’ broad network across the industry, and his particular knowledge of the industry, the people, and the products they sell serves the Schaffer team and its clients exceedingly well. Dan earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, IL, and his M.B.A. from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI. He and his wife live in Huntersville, NC, where they are active members of St. Mark’s Church, serving in a variety of ministries. In his spare time, Dan enjoys playing basketball, tennis, and golf, in addition to cooking great barbeque for family and friends.


DAWN YOUNGBLOOD
Recruiter

Dawn Youngblood joined Schaffer Associates as a Recruiter in early 2015, building on a career that is characterized by a deep knowledge of the recruiting process at various levels and for a wide range of clients. Adding to the industry focus of Schaffer Associates, Dawn has extensive experience working in the hardware, home improvement, and building materials industries. Working in the building materials industry comes naturally to Dawn, having grown up in her father’s business as a manufacturer’s representative in the commercial construction industry. Her experience there included a number of responsibilities ranging from fielding customer questions to reading architectural designs and handling architectural bid submittals. Dawn came to Schaffer Associates with a rich background not only in the industry, but in recruiting specifically. She served as Director of Talent Acquisition and Business Development Leader for various staffing companies, and she has noteworthy experience recruiting in the manufacturing industry in particular. At Schaffer Associates, Dawn engages in direct interaction with job candidates, handles prospective candidate development strategies, and focuses on relationship building between Schaffer Associates clients and candidates. Her unique way of connecting with candidates makes her a great asset to the company. A North Carolina native, Dawn earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business from Liberty University in Virginia. She is an active member of her Charlotte community, leading Bible study groups and volunteering with organizations such as Be The Match. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, playing golf, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.


Toni Oates
Recruiter

Joining the Schaffer Associates team in 2015, Toni Oates currently serves as a Recruiter. Drawing on an extensive background in human resources with Siemens Healthcare USA, Toni handles a wide variety of key issues as a member of the Recruiting team, including talent research, candidate interviews, reference and background checks, and even assisting in the firm’s marketing and communications efforts. Prior to joining Schaffer Associates, Toni served in various Human Resources roles for the better part of a decade with healthcare engineering giant Siemens Healthcare. In her most recent role with Siemens, she served as a Human Resources Business Partner, supporting over 500 employees at all levels, including the executive leadership team, through the employee life cycle. Throughout the course of her career, Toni has developed an expertise in employee relations and performance management that has proven to be a highly valuable asset to the Schaffer Associates team. Toni earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Aurora University in Illinois. In 2012, she relocated to North Carolina from the Chicago area with her husband and two sons.  Since then, she has become actively involved in the community and enjoys volunteering with the PTA/PTSO, the South Charlotte Dog Rescue, and with the Children’s Ministry at her local church.  When not on the soccer field or volunteering, Toni enjoys traveling with her family to the mountains for hiking or to the beach to relax.


PHILLIP CHRISTOFFERSON
Recruiter

Phillip Christofferson joined Schaffer Associates as a Recruiter in 2017. Phillip’s prior experience includes serving as a recruitment specialist adviser to the Governor of North Carolina, as well as a contract recruiter for a major international research institute through his work with Greene Resources. During his tenure in the Office of the Governor, Phillip gained experience identifying and recruiting a diverse set of candidates in many different industries and fields of work to fill positions on a wide array of Boards and Commissions throughout North Carolina. Over the course of his four year-tenure with the Governor, he helped to successfully fill over 2,000 appointments that expired under the Governor’s term. As a result of his experience filling positions during high volume staffing needs, Phillip excels in quickly and effectively locating talented and qualified candidates. With expertise in screening candidates through extensive talent research, comprehensive interviews, and background checks, he brings the necessary skill of finding only the best candidates to Schaffer Associates. Phillip earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is an active Board Member for Hope Animal Rescue, also acting as a Foster Coordinator for the volunteer-based organization. Phillip is a member of the Natural Science Museum Advisory Board and volunteers annually with North Carolina Special Olympics. Since recently moving to a suburb of Charlotte, Phillip spends his free time exploring the local area and hiking with his rescue dog, Snowy.
