Distribution Center Manager Needed for National Building Products Distributor
[POSITION FILLED] November 1, 2021 – Schaffer Associates is recruiting for a Distribution Center (DC) Manager for a national building products distributor. The DC Manager will be responsible for organizing and overseeing the daily operations of the Company’s Elkhart, IN branch. He/she will ensure that the business is well coordinated and productive by managing its procedures and coaching its people. The primary area of responsibility is to ensure effective and efficient warehouse operations, which includes managing the Sales and Service Center, local purchasing, inventory (shipping and receiving), and transportation functions while maintaining and improving results in safety, quality, service, and cost performance. Reporting to the General Manager, the DC Manager will have the responsibility for acquiring a deep understanding of all areas of company Operations, and, subsequently, for evaluating current processes, developing and implementing measurable short- and long-term initiatives, identifying Key Performance metrics (KPIs) for improving operational efficiencies, and for defining and establishing solutions for long term objectives. This individual must have a strong, demonstrated background and experience in warehouse/ distribution management, in leading and developing a workforce, and be skilled in managing and prioritizing multiple work streams.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Executive Management Team to make decisions for operational activities and goals
- Develop and drive operations initiatives, programs, and processes
- Plan and monitor day-to-day running of business
- Supervise staff from warehouse, Sales/Service center, transportation
- Manage local procurement processes
- Oversee customer support processes and enhance customer satisfaction
- Review financial information and adjust budgets to promote profitability
- Manage relationships with sales reps
- Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
- Ensure the company runs with legality and conforms to regulations (DOT,OSHA, etc)
- Define, implement, and measure operational practices
- Develop growth strategy so the warehouse operations are able to excel in a period of rapid growth
- Ensure accurate operational forecasting and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve production efficiencies
- Responsible for creating and maintaining internal inventory control practices to reduce shrinkage
- Supervise and manage direct reports, apply advanced interpersonal and communication skills to motivate the workforce, drive execution of policies and procedures, and implement corrective action
- Lead and support all Safety programs
- Collaborate with all levels of the organization, including Senior leadership, to execute the overall strategic plan
- Engage with and manage outside parties (vendors, customers, etc.) to ensure we have the appropriate solutions, expertise, and best practices of everyone, including other distributors, incorporated into our existing Operations framework and processes.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Proven experience (5+ years) as DC Manager, Operations Manager, or equivalent position
- Outstanding communication, leadership, and people skills
- Knowledge of industry legal rules and guidelines; training or experience in OSHA and DOT compliance
- In-depth knowledge of distribution
- Working knowledge of performance/operations metrics
- Familiarity with MS Office and business software
