Chief Technical & Process Officer (CTPO) Needed for European Manufacturer

October 27, 2022 – Schaffer Associates is recruiting for a Chief Technical & Process Officer (CTPO) to oversee the effectiveness of all technical, process, and manufacturing resources for the North Carolina operations of a European manufacturer within the building materials industry.  Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, this position will lead the company’s Manufacturing and Technical teams, communicate with other executives, perform research on new products, processes, and technologies, and recommend both strategic and tactical improvements to enhance the profitability of the business. In addition, the CTPO will monitor the use and implementation of new and existing processes across multiple departments.

 

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Defining strategies for Technical and Manufacturing teams; ensuring processes meet requirements and standards.
  • Creating and monitoring the Technical and Manufacturing departments’ budgets; setting performance goals for the team’s managers; developing and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Leading the Technical and Manufacturing teams, offering guidance and supervising the managers and employees in the several departments.
  • Outlining and implementing goals for the Research and Development department.
  • Evaluating technical products and services to determine the impact they could have on achieving company goals.
  • Leading technical product management, with a desire and willingness to build solid working relationships and a productive exchange of information with the parent company in Europe.
  • Willing to travel internationally in the scope of these tasks.
  • Communicating the company’s strategy to executives and other key stakeholders.
  • Monitoring current trends and utilizing this knowledge to improve the company’s approach.
  • Evaluating current infrastructure and implementing new systems to improve as necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including but not limited to raw materials, products, production equipment, harmful substances, environment, etc.
  • Effectively communicating with governing authorities and other agencies on behalf of the company as it relates to manufacturing and product management.
  • Responsible for staff (recruitment & training) in Production, R&D, and Quality Control
  • Responsible for process improvement in Production, R&D, and Quality Control
  • Responsible for plant and site management, planning, design, and building of production facilities.
  • Responsible for leading and adhering to the company’s green initiatives and environmental policies

 

Skills Required:

  • Communications: This individual will need to be able to convey complex technical information to people in a variety of different roles.  Strong communication skills also include the ability to listen effectively as active listening skills are required in order to understand the needs of customers, employees, and executives.
  • Decision Making: The Chief Technical and Process Officer is responsible for directing the manufacturing, process, product technologies, policies, and procedures and must be able to evaluate, research, and listen objectively to the opinions of others before coming to a firm decision in the best interest of the company.
  • Problem Solving: This person must have strong problem-solving skills; these are critical for identifying solutions for problems as they arise and for looking at situations and identifying better or more efficient ways of performing tasks.
  • Leadership: This individual needs to be able to inspire and motivate others to see and understand the company vision to successfully execute projects. They also should be able to share their love of learning with their team and inspire team members to grow professionally.
  • Time Management: The CTPO must be able to manage their own daily responsibilities, monitor the work of their team, and explore new initiatives that can help the company move closer to its goals.  Being able to balance these responsibilities effectively requires strong time-management abilities.
  • Research Skills: This person must also have strong research skills in order to stay up-to-date and understand how they can apply new technologies within the own organization.

 

Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferred in Chemical, Mechanical or Process Engineering or related discipline).
  • Additional certifications in manufacturing, continuous improvement, development, technical support, programming, database administration, or other related fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a varied positions in project management in the chemical industry, preferably in the adhesive industry; experience in business management.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in management (manufacturing, process improvement, or a related field), preferably in the plant or at the R&D level.
  • Experience in working with plant engineering, logistics, manufacturing processes, and process optimization
  • Functional knowledge in supply chain, quality management, and HSE (Health, Safety, Environment)
  • Experience with process manufacturing systems and ERP systems as NetSuite or SAP.
  • Commitment to environmentally sound manufacturing principles and to implementing responsible initiatives wherever possible.
  • High social competence.
