National Packaging Products Distributor Looks to Hire Director of Procurement

[POSITION FILLED] March 9, 2022 – Schaffer Associates is recruiting for a Director of Procurement for a well-respected distributor of packaging supplies and services. Reporting to the COO, the Director of Procurement will be responsible for managing the sourcing, purchasing and procurement activities for all of the Company’s businesses. Areas of responsibility will include sourcing, category management, supplier/vendor management and negotiations, inventory planning/replenishment, inventory control, master data and supplier compliance.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and develop the purchasing organization
  • Develop and build relationships with key suppliers and customers, both domestic and international
  • Negotiate supplier contracts along with rebates/discounts
  • Source new suppliers and optimize categories
  • Manage the inventory asset and balance inventory levels with service levels
  • Works with AP to optimize supplier effectiveness
  • Manage new product setups, vendor set ups, cost changes and overall master data and communicate to the sales team
  • Provide collaborative leadership and expertise to internal and external stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years in purchasing, sourcing, category management
  • Distribution experience highly preferred
  • Strong leadership and effective business partnering capabilities – influence without authority
  • Proven people leadership experience in managing, coaching, communicating, driving, performance management, and influencing a national team to achieve organization results
  • Previous experience in the packaging industry a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Team player, self-driven, takes initiative, is enthusiastic
